What is a chord?
A chord is a set of two or more notes sounded together. Common chords like major and minor triads are built by stacking thirds above a root.
Chords serve as the harmonic foundation of music, supporting melodies and shaping the emotional character of a piece. Different types of chords—such as major, minor, diminished, augmented, and extended chords (sevenths, ninths, etc.)—produce distinct moods and colors.
